IHSSC Southeast Asia Early-Career Research Fellowship

Supporting emerging scholars and original research on and from Southeast Asia

The IHSSC Southeast Asia Early-Career Research Fellowship is a competitive research funding programme for outstanding doctoral researchers and early-career scholars from Southeast Asia.

The Fellowship supports independently proposed research in the humanities and social sciences and seeks to provide emerging scholars with greater opportunities to develop original research, conduct fieldwork, and contribute to scholarly conversations within and beyond Southeast Asia.

Applicants are invited to develop and submit their own research proposals. The programme does not require applicants to work on predetermined topics. Interdisciplinary, comparative, transnational, locally grounded, and methodologically innovative projects are particularly welcome.

Applicants should demonstrate a strong academic record, a clearly defined research project, and the potential to make an original contribution to their field.

Applications from scholars with limited access to institutional or external research funding are particularly encouraged.

Research Areas

Proposals may address a broad range of topics across the humanities and social sciences, including history, anthropology, sociology, political science, international relations, area studies, and related interdisciplinary fields.

There is no predetermined annual research theme unless otherwise announced.

Selection

Fellowships will be awarded through a competitive selection process.
